Our Approach & Long Term Overviews

Our Approach to Teaching the Curriculum

Our CARES Curriculum is planned carefully, making sure that all key National Curriculum content is covered before identifying the important knowledge and skills that we want our children to learn. Each subject has clearly identified areas of learning with a detailed progression across the year groups.

History, Geography and Science 'drive' our topics and meaningful links are made between subjects wherever possible in order to enhance learning. Many of our other subjects are planned with the support of recognised schemes, whilst ensuring that the key knowledge and skills are covered and revisited in all year groups.

Maths is planned and taught using the recently updated 'White Rose' Maths scheme.

Reading is planned and taught using a 'Whole Class Reading' model from Y2 upwards.

Writing is planned and taught using the 'Talk 4 Writing' approach.

Foundation Stage

The Foundation Stage Classes plan a variety of whole class and structured play activities to develop skills across the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. Practical activities are designed to support:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Literacy

Maths

Understanding of the World

Expressive Arts and Design

Children work indoors and outdoors to learn and apply new vocabulary, and are encouraged to record their learning though writing, drawing and taking photographs.

The framework can be found here Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This framework is taught through topics that excite the children and are planned according to their needs and interests.
