Building Mini-Shelters - Surviving in the Stone Age

Investigating Rocks

To begin our new Science topic about rocks and soil, we took time to investigate a variety of different rocks. We looked closely at their appearance and thought of words to describe their different characteristics. We were able to use this vocabulary to help us to sort them into different groups. We all found it really interesting!

How Are Rocks Formed?

We have enjoyed learning about different types of rocks and how they are formed. We squeezed, squashed and heated sweets in order to replicate how rocks are formed in different ways.

We're Going on a Worm Hunt! We have been learning all about worms and why they are important. We used our knowledge of they type of habitat they like in order to find and observe some.

Fossils - We enjoyed investigating some fossils, finding out about different types of fossils and creating our own in different ways.

Trip to Derby Museum

What an amazing day we had! We were lucky enough to learn all about life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We had the opportunity to touch and learn how to use a variety of real artefacts that would have been used by people from the past.

It was also interesting to learn about how people in the museum put on an exhibition for visitors. We used a variety of interesting objects as a stimulus and planned our own exhibitions for them, explaining our thoughts to our friends.

Number Day 2023

For number day this year, we enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities and investigations based on

maths. Our focus number was 24 and lots of our work was based on it including measuring and calculating.  It was great fun!
