Pupils and staff at Stenson Fields Primary Community School are celebrating achieving the national Modeshift Sustainable Travel Accreditation and Recognition for Schools award (STARS).
The STARS scheme, launched by transport minister Baroness Kramer in November 2014, recognises the efforts made to persuade pupils and parents to choose greener and healthier ways of getting to and from school.
Stenson Fields Primary Community School have worked hard to encourage parents to leave the car at home by:
*cycle safety training
*promoting walking to school through the Derbyshire County Council Travel Smart campaign.
Stenson Fields Primary Community School Head teacher, Mrs Shirley Smith explains, “We are delighted to receive the Bronze STARS award and will carry on working hard to encourage children to travel school in safe, healthy and environmentally friendly ways.”
The school is now working towards their Silver STARS award by looking at other ways they can reduce the number of car journeys made to school.
