Phonics Information

Here at Stenson Fields Community Primary school we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised. This is what we will follow to teach phonics to your children.

Here is the link you can use to find lots of information and videos to help you to help your children at home. We know it can be difficult to understand how we approach phonics at school, so hopefully this link will make things a little bit clearer - and it's all in one place!

If you are unsure about any of it, please come and speak to one of the Foundation Stage team and we will do our very best to help you. Consistency in the way we approach phonics at school and at home is the best way to help our children become confident and capable readers.

Fun Online Games:

Watch as the letters of the alphabet tell stories and make words using phonics. Play the learning game, watch clips and print colouring pages.

This provides practice in sounding out words. Sound out the word then click the matching picture.

Choose the set of phonemes you want to play with first of all. One of them will show up in the bottom right of the screen and you will hear its sound. All you have to do is click on the bubbles with the required letter, trying to make sure that they fall into the grey catching zone. Every 30 seconds you will get a new phoneme to catch.

In this game you can choose which letters you want to work with so it can be used even in the very early stages of Phase 2. Click to get a new coin then sound out the word. Drag the coin into the treasure chest if it's a real word and into the bin if it's not.
